Foodies and other heathens
Welcome to the Sancocho Blog. I hope to make this space an area where I can rant on the overabundance of chain "restaurants," keep you informed of what some of the local farmers are up to, and generally just ramble.
Last week I had the great pleasure to visit Santa Rosa Junior College. They have an excellent culinary certificate program, and some very dedicated instructors. They are located several blocks from the main campus, in a renovated building in downtown Santa Rosa, CA. They have a full service student run restaurant and bakery, with most of the ingredients coming from local farmers, cheesemakers, or the student's own garden.
While in Sonoma, I took the opportunity to visit some of my favorite places, including Matanzas Creek Winery and Preston of Dry Creek. Lou Preston has become one of my personal heros due to his dedication and vision in producing not only great wines and bread, but also olive oil, olives, pickles, and outstanding produce, all grown on the property and all of it organic. He has proven that the organic label does not have to mean expensive.
